‘Reds’ are always a welcome sight as they appear from the depths. These hard fighting fish are top eating, truly a five-star fish.

Red emperor tend to shoal together in groups of similar sized fish, with larger fish generally in deep water adjacent to reefs, where currents are vigorous.

In our waters across the top, juveniles to 5kg are typical catches, fishing rubble type bottom where there is good tidal flow. When the weather and currents allow, bigger fish can be caught in the deeper holes wide of the Cape.

Emperor will take live and dead baits including squid, herring and fresh cut-fish baits.

Bag limits apply, a min of 55cm, and a limit of 5 fish.
