Nannygai

(family: lutjanidae)

From the same family as the red emperor, fingermark and mangrove jack, Nannygai (small mouth and large mouth) are no relation to the nannygai found in the colder southern waters of Australia.

Often confused with red emperor, nannygai are an equally worthy adversary, both on the end of a line, and presented on the plate.

Smaller fish are prevalent in the estuaries, while larger specimens are found in the deeper holes around inshore reef structures.

Bag limits in Qld apply, min. size of 40cm, and a combined take of 9 fish for both species.
