Saratoga

(family: osteoglossidae)

Saratoga are commonly taken in the freshwater estuaries and billabongs of northern Australia. Casting flies and lures to lily pads and submerged snags, can result in an instant surface explosion as one of these ancient fish smash the anglers offering.

Unfortunately, they are a coarse fleshed and flavourless fish, however their fighting qualities make them a worthwhile sport fish.
